• A custom flute from the William S. Haynes workshop, serial #44400

    (Boston, 1978).

The head, body and foot and all keywork are of solid 14 Karat red gold. Sounding length is 600 mm ( A = 440 ), the flute build to Haynes traditional scale.

C foot, offset G key, C-sharp trill, split E mechanism.

The instrument was acquired by us from the family of the original owner who was a great-great-grandson of John A. Roebling, designer and engineer, builder of New York’s Brooklyn Bridge.

The embouchure is exactly 10.0 by 12.0 mm, “slightly square”…the same dimensions recommended by Theobald Boehm.

The flute is exceptional, not too dissimilar to the 14K Haynes gold flute made in the late seventies for Jean-Pierre Rampal.
