BUFFET-CRAMPON (PARIS)

An early Boehm system conical cocuswood flute, circa 1840. Mostly known for their clarinets, Buffet produced a handful of other superb instruments in the 19th. century. Nickel ring-system “1832” keywork, C foot. Dorus G# key.

Embouchure measures 9.5 X 11.4 mm. Sounding length is 595 mm. Total length is 686 mm. The flute plays well at A = 435 pitch.

All parts are original, no alterations have been made.

Case is from the same time-period and is in fine original condition.

Please note an almost identical instrument is depicted in the Lenski / Ventzke book “Das goldene Zeitalter der Floete”. Their flute is cited as having ebony body; our flute has been constructed of a rather nicely colored red-brown cocuswood.

It’s an early Boehm-system French instrument that plays well, is somewhat rare, quite original.

    $3,100.
