Verne Q. Powell “Hand-Made Custom” number 4669 ( 1976 ), “pre-Wasser” flute.
The solid sterling-silver tube measures .016 inches (body and foot) and .014 inches (head).
The flute was constructed with in-line G with drawn and rolled tone-holes.
Low B foot and “gizmo” on the low B key-touch. With original head section: A : 442, “Cooper Scale”.
In 1976, Powell built only 279 flutes, perhaps half were “commercial” models, the others the so-called “hand-made”.
Which means this flute, combined with Cooper scale and solid 14K red-gold embouchure is a rather rare item.
In our opinion, this particular instrument is, in our opinion, a flute of the highest quality, highly recommended by our workshop.
Embouchure measures 10.3 X 12.1 mm, the sounding length is 634 mm. The flute weighs 443 grams.
Although the flute is not engraved “Cooper Scale”, we note that the center section, the is 634 mm in length, two mm shorter than traditional Powell scale of the 1970’s. Powell’s web site also confirms that it was constructed with Cooper scale.
